This month's Inspiring Woman is Belinda Moore.
Firstly, tell me a bit about yourself and your family. I'm 34 and married with six children aged 4,6,9,10,12 and 14. Four girls and two boys. I was born in Sydney, Australia and have moved many times throughout my life. My longest time in one house was when we lived outside my husband's hometown in North Queensland for 11 years. We've moved twice in the past two years and have now settled on our own hobby farm in Far North Queensland. I adore living in the country and feel extremely blessed to have landed here. How do you find the energy to be around your children constantly? A combination of tools help me to not burn out. The main one is my attitude - counting my blessings, leading by example and being the best I can be are important goals for me. Secondly, I try to spend time doing what I enjoy - growing food plants, connecting with like-minded adults, writing and being with nature. Some of these things I can do alongside my children, others I need to take time out for. How do you find time to run a property, care for and educate a large family as well as running a small business hand having time for your own hobbies? I guess it comes down to what Lucille Ball said, "If you want something done ask a busy person to do it. The more things you do, the more you can do.” My life wasn't always such a juggling act, I've taken on extra responsibilities in time. Of course my hobbies (and the housework) suffer at times, but it's all a matter of prioritising. And I'm very passionate about the things I'm doing. Again, counting my blessings. How do you inspire your children to learn? By never ceasing to learn ourselves. My husband and I often tackle new tasks and we both love to read and watch documentaries. I think that showing our children that learning is a lifelong journey and not limited to a classroom or book work is the most inspirational teaching we can offer. What inspires you? Motherhood, nature, love, music - I'm inspired every day by so many aspects of my life, and glimpses into others' lives. If you could teach every woman in the world just one thing, what would it be? That's a hard one! *Every* woman? We're all so different! Gardening with kids is my passion though. Children need to know that nature sustains life. Growing food is a forgotten skill that could one day be vitally important again. |
